Started in October, 1996, THS International, Inc. was established to incubate a new medical technology called HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) for the treatment of various cancerous diseases. The first application of this technology is for prostate cancer. In the early days, the company established a strategy of commercializing HIFU for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) while perfecting the technology for prostate cancer. The Sonablate® 500 system is now selling internationally for both applications.

THS International is a member of the THS Group headed by Mr. Kazuo Takai, President of Takai Hospital Supply Co., Ltd. in Tokyo , Japan . THS International founded, and remains a major shareholder of Focus Surgery, Inc., a HIFU medical device company based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Focus Surgery is a worldwide leader in the development and commercialization of the HIFU technology for the treatment of prostate diseases.

In addition to its role as shareholder of Focus Surgery, THS International is also a patent holder and licensor of several HIFU patents instrumental to the foundation of Focus Surgery, Inc. and Therus Corporation.

THS International is responsible for the sales of Focus Surgery's Sonablate® 500 for the treatment of prostate diseases in Japan, Asia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Iran markets. THS International provides full service sales, clinical and service training, installation, and regulatory support to its customers in these markets. THS International sells directly to hospitals and subdistributors in these markets.

THS International is involved in the worldwide effort to promote the use of HIFU for the treatment of prostate diseases with urologists and patients alike. THS International is committed to improving the quality of life for patients that are faced with the decision of treating cancer.
